2002 China Tour Comments

From the Director...

"We forged ahead with our plans to visit China with CACBC, despite the difficulties that we all experienced in 2002, and it turned out to be a wonderful tour that we will never forget. Our pictures appeared in posters, newspapers, and magazines by our sponsors - one of which was the Office of the Representatives of Maryland in China! We experienced great sites, with incredible guides, and always felt safe. Anyone who has the chance to travel to China with CACBC should grab the opportunity with both hands - my students are still talking about the nice people, and all the great things they discovered and experienced in China!"                                                                                                          Margaret Gatto, Director

"The country and people of China are very impressive. Everyone was so nice - they did everything they could to provide our group with everything we needed. Getting to know the wonderful people of China was one of the best experiences I have had, and I am very happy that I had the opportunity."                       Haya Bragg, Chaperone

"Walking to the top of the Great Wall of China was a proud accomplishment for me, and seeing how vibrant and growing China is was very exciting. Another wonderful aspect of the trip was the CACBC tour guides - they were amazing, and truly made it the trip of a lifetime for my family and I."                           Kevin McGovern, Chaperone

"The best moments of the trip were meeting the people of China. The pride that they take in their country was truly gratifying to see and experience."        Michael Cummiskey, Friend of Maryland Youth Orchestra

"Going to China was like living through a National Geographic documentary - I loved the restaurant where we danced! What I will remember most about the tripwas the wonderful appreciative audiences that we had at our performances - they made me feel very proud."                                                                                                              Sarah Black, Student Participant

"I really enjoyed the trip because I learned so many new things about China. I felt very comfortable in China - and would love to return to see the Olympics."     Judy McGovern, Chaperone

"One very exciting moment happened while we were on the train - I saw a beautiful full color Chinese poster advertising the Maryland Youth Orchestra performance! I was just able to get a snapshot of it, which made the performers very proud. The hospitality that our group received was more than any of us ever expected - getting to know the people and culture of China is an experience that I will never forget!"                                                                                                        Jennifer Chan, Friend of Maryland Youth Orchestra

"It was very exciting for me to learn how to speak some Chinese words. I was able to say hello to people, which was great!"                                                   David Holyoke, Student Participant

"We were protected from harm, fed bountifully, and shown amazing sites. CACBC provided wonderful tour guides that entertained and informed us all at the same time - they allowed me to befriend them, and understand the culture of China much better. I am truly glad that I went to China."                                          Marie de la Haz, Student Participant

"I was very happy about the tour guides that CACBC provided. They were extremely informative, and very helpful with any issue or need that we had."                                                                                                                  Alicia Gravois, Student Participant

“Going to China will be a memory that I will keep with me forever. The night of the big Shanghai Concert was the most exciting moment of the trip. We did such a good job, and the audience was so happy. We all felt that finally all of our hard work and long hours of practice had paid off.”                              Garrett A. Engle, Student Participant

"I think my proudest moment of the trip was reaching the top of the Great Wall, and, upon reflection, making it back down again without collapsing!"    Lauranne Lanz, Student Participant

"I learned so much about China, and just how neat it is to learn about a culture other than my own. Everyone was so friendly and respectful - I had a lot of fun, and I definitely want to go back!"                                                                        Seth Rees, Student Participant
