Concerts for Grades
4th - 12th & Adults
Celebrate and enjoy the music
of China, Japan, Korea, Russia, and hear familiar western hymns anew,
played by Qiu Min Ji on the Erhu, a two-string Chinese violin. Her
passion & oneness with her instrument bridges cultural differences.
Programs run from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Extra musicians available.
Workshops
Workshops for teachers and music majors
offer in-depth exploration about Asian music scales. Rhythms and melodies
are introduced to gain knowledge that is usable in classroom instruction.
Hands-on playing of instruments such as the Erhu, Gaohu, Liouqin Ran (Wanham),
Sanxian (Shamisen), Bamboo Flute & Chinese Percussions, highlights their
charms and challenges.
Qiu Min Ji
is the Illinois
Arts Council Ethnic Fellowship award winner in 1998, and the Illinois Arts Council
apprenticeship award winner in 1997.
