About the Artist - Qiu MinJi

Qiu Min Ji is a well-known Chinese Musician, and a certified bilingual teacher in Illinois. Before emigrating to the United States from China in 1989, Ms. Ji was a professional Erhu player and teacher. 

Since becoming an American Citizen, she has given many concerts in cultural centers, universities, and at schools and festivals - including the Chicago Art Institute, Chicago Field Museum, David Adler Cultural Center, Chicago University Folk Festival as well as many others nationwide.

Ms. Ji was the featured Erhu soloist in the TV series entitled "In Our Tradition," sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts. Her music has been broadcast in Chicago on station WFMT and was televised on channel 10 in Indiana. In 1993 Ms. Ji received an invitation from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to give 15 concerts of Chinese traditional music accompanied by the Western Orchestras.

As a dedicated educator, and a bilingual and bicultural musician, Ms. Ji offers numerous assemblies and workshops for k - 12 schools that include her Chinese Culture Presentations. In addition, every year she conducts several performance and educational exchanges to China for American groups.

Ms. Ji's presentations are highly recognized by our society. Several Chinese language newspapers as well as the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald have featured stories and reports regarding her numerous efforts.

In addition to the collection of awards that she received while in China, Ms. Ji was also awarded the 1992 & 1993 Illinois Art Council Apprenticeship, the 1991 John Kittredge Education Award, and the Jonathan Memorial Fellowship Award in 1990. Ms. Ji has published "Erhu and QiGong" in Chinese, and the "Teachers guide to Chinese Culture and Activities."
